Alan Hogan, Karjaa Member Since September 2010 Artist Statement "Originally from Dublin, Ireland I now live in a small town called Karis or Karjaa (Finnish), just west of Helsinki in Finland. Art was always my favorite subject at school and I continued to be interested in it for many years afterwards. I did of course spend some time in other areas of work, sometimes in jobs I disliked. After graduating from the university of art in Dublin I became involved in commercial printing and desktop publishing. This allowed me to continue part-time as a traditional artist while having a steady income at a job I liked. Many years later, an opportunity came to move to Finland and begin a new life. Working in the print industry had become tiresome and monotonous. I needed to be more creative, hence my decision to become a full-time artist on moving to Finland. At present I have my own small home-based gallery which I open occasionally to the public. As temperatures can get down as low as -30C here in the winter, I prefer to keep my originals hidden and warm until the Spring. I like to display my work at public places for maximum exposure in the summer months. Places such as restaurants, summer cafes and design fairs. I have not approached any galleries for representation yet, but I am always interested in any offers. I've had quite a few exhibitions here in Finland including the Helsinki Design Week event. That was lots of fun! Thanks for reading my brief profile. Please enjoy my art and you are welcome to visit my website."
