This was the first Modest Mouse tour across the USA. We had around 4 days to get to Chicago from Pullman WA. The drive started out as a slow and peacefully through
mountains and amazing scenery. Soon we spotted little flakes of snow falling, how beautifull it looked...As we drove the snow got heavy..and we slowed to a crawl. Ignoring all the signs for places to put chains on the tires, we carried on...Eric was driving as we came up to cross a bridge high over a road below. I had my seatbelt off and was trying to snap a photo of the snow, when all of sudden we started sliding out on the bridge. I looked at Eric and then looked out the window as it seemed we were gonna go over. Then bam..the guard rail stopped the van. Crashed perpendicular and looking over the bridge we got out of the van and hugged or something..
Backed the van up and went to get chains. Hours later with chains on then off we stopped for break. The radio said all roads closed in Montana but one. Hey lets take that one and just get through this right.

Now we were freaked so we just kept driving into the white blackness.
The vans wheels stopped and the road was gone it was all snow. What to do now? We got socks on our hands andtryed to dig out..no luck as the van faded and turned off.
Finally a car pulled up a few hundred yards behind us..We crawled through the snow and got in this guys car. "Well boys looks like were here till dawn, i barely made it this far" Frozen solid we sat in the idling car till morning when a few tractors tryed to pull our van out. One flipped over, and the other pulled it out. The van started and we kept driving. The Montana picture and others from Lonesome crowed west are
