Description Here's a water-free picture of the underside of the huge fishing pier at Folly Beach, in South Carolina, around sunset. As I bleached the color and increased the contrast while the image still looked like a fishing pier, but had an otherworldly feel, kind of like a church, as if the the struts from the pier formed the vaults of a Gothic cathedral. The day was gorgeous, I was full of good food (behind many of my good pictures there is a good meal!), the kids played happily in the sand, and I got a great shot to boot. Perfect day.
Victoria Rentel, Columbus Member Since July 2007 Artist Statement About my pictures
I have a day job which has little to do with pictures.
My other day (and night) job is mother for two smart, temperamental, willful, delightful, small children.
I’m also a snapshot machine. I got my first camera 36 years ago, and I’ve been clicking since.
Late at night (I'm an unapologetic insomniac) I lavish my photos with attention. I turn off the lights and finally, quietly look for things I couldn’t see during the cacophony of my day. In the wee hours, when I hope most of you are asleep, my snapshots are lovingly teased into photographs.
I appreciate that you spent some of your valuable time on my photographs.
