Artist Statement Hello, my artist name is KariEli (formerly Kari Petree).
I was born an artist...meant to create, and have been doing so all my life. My parents noticed my creativity and put me in an art school when I was 5...and I still have some of what I then created. I created endless cards of gratitude and love for my parents when growing up, and this is when they knew of my true love for art. I still have some of these to this day. My father would always put me in charge of creative projects needing to be done at home, and I enjoyed each and every opportunity to express my creativity. My parents had by that time also been to Europe and bought paintings that I sat and gazed at...wondering how and if I could paint them.
Then when we were staying in the mountains on a family trip, the scenery right outside our log cabin was breath-taking! There was a bench you could sit on and take in the mountain view, and I remember sitting there and telling my father I really wished I could paint it. He then went into town, bought me paints, paper, brushes, and said now I could. What a treat it was...to be able to express the "feelings" that were inside of me...on paper...as I gazed upon this view, and I remember those feelings every time I paint. I still have that watercolor painting, and left it in its original state, I believe purposefully, to forever remind me of how miraculous it is...when a simple "sheet of paper can be "transformed" into something that may be remembered forever...when what is being transferred to that paper is from the heart.
I have now returned to painting, and people are always telling me that "my art makes them happy" and that it has a "healing quality to it", so this has made me want to continue giving whatever I can to my art so that people can be happy and healthy. People also told me they want to "wear my art"...so I have also created a store where I design shoes and other items from my paintings...
