Sherri Sabo, Florida Member Since September 2006 Artist Statement Art has its own voice. For me, creating art is an outlet that does not restrict or have boundaries. What happens in the process of making art is completely pure. As an artist, my work may start with predisposed assumptions, but usually the result is something I could not have planned. It surprises me, and as art should, shows me something about myself that I could never express in words or emotions. And I hope that others are able to see a bit of themselves in each piece; perhaps my works could awaken something that their own voice or emotions had forgotten, lost or buried.
This is why abstract art and collage are so appealing to me. Associations of unrelated parts, distortions, juxtapositions, and interesting perspectives reveal interesting "snippets" of uncommon reality. It speaks volumes and gives us a glimpse into another dimension.
As a freelance graphic designer, my artwork tends to be graphically influenced, rather than painterly. Often I will "finish" a collage, photograph or painting digitally. Many of my works are a combination of hands-on and digital. I feel that both mediums in combination can produce the strongest compositions.
