Belinda Allen, Sydney, Australia Member Since September 2006 Artist Statement Born in England, I moved to Adelaide, Australia when 12 years old. Since studying at art school in the 70s, using and manipulating photographic imagery has been an integral part of my creative work.
I moved to Sydney, worked as a freelance photographer, and from the 80s worked in graphic design, also producing creative photography and screen prints. Since the 90s I have lived in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney, and my art work has been progressively more influenced by the landscape.
I am interested in how mankind relates to and interacts with the environment, particularly in seeking the 'idyllic', which I believe represents a desire to return to a spiritual relationship to landscape which has been devalued in our 'developed' world.
Digital technology has gradually superseded darkroom manipulation. My current work is shot using both digital and film SLR cameras, and composited in the computer using Adobe CS.
My work is regularly hung in local and national exhibitions, both group and solo.
