This gallery consisds of abstract works that involve computer effects on a scanned photo or painting. The original "stimulus" for these pieces are color-rich, but very mundane in subject matter -- such as a box of hats or a picture of a ship. My goal is to transform them so that colors, texture, and movement become primary: the original subjects are obliterated. I want viewers to experience the artwork on its olwn terms, as if they were entering a little world with itrs own logic. Sometimes, I try to have recognizable creatures/humans, with no details so that viewers can make a fresh connection. The figures emerge from the shapes -- at least that's my intent. In general, I think a painting is perceived in terms of the 3 C's: content, composition, and connection. I emphasize the latter two, especially in this gallery. My hope is to enable viewers to experience rather than quickly categorize what they see. I will have very brief descriptions of most of the paintings in the gallery because almost all exemplify what I've written here.
