Whimsical and enchanting animal art by artist Dee Van Houten. Beautiful animal art such as tropical birds and colorful tropical fish are favorite subjects of mine, along with puffins, dolphins, elephants, flamingos, pandas, and koala bears. My art style blends curvilinear stylization with traditional realism, giving my work a painted, yet illustrative look.
The colors in my paintings are vivid without being overpowering. The details are there too, with just enough to delight the senses, but without overwhelming the viewer. I mostly work in gouache (opaque watercolor), watercolor, and color pencil, although I use oils and graphite, depending on which medium would be best for the subject I might paint or draw.
