DescriptionArmenian Genocide - 1915-1918 The government's plan was to 'relocate' Armenians living in Turkey. Armenians were said it would be 'for their own good'. Armenians didn't know what was planned for them that is why they obediently followed the government's instructions. Through deportations and massacres they were eliminated from their homeland. 1,500,000 Armenians died. Many survived to tell us the story.
GenocidesThe following passage has been extracted from the book 'Survivors. An oral history of the Armenian Genocide' by Donald E. Miller and Lorna Touryan Miller (page 5): 'The Armenian Genocide was the first major genocide of the twentieth century, but it was certainly not the last. It has been estimated that 60 million people have died in this century alone of state-orchestrated violence. In the public imagination, the Jewish Holocaust is often remembered as the only genocide of the modern age and, therefore, considered to be something of an anomaly. But since World War II, genocide has occurred repeatedly in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. The one way in which the Jewish Holocaust is anomalous is that it has not been denied, except by a few revisionists.'
Ina Mar, Munich, Germany Member Since June 2007 Artist Statement In 2001 I created my first experimental series called "Lightcurves", where I transformed the body into landscape through lighting effects and accessory objects. Since 2001, I have been exploring the notion of metamorphosis and hybridism, mixing media and transforming the representational into abstract, through lighting effects, shooting techniques (such as "traveling" of the camera) or photomanipulation.
My more recent works explore surrealism and the irrationality of dreams and emotions, using a mixed technique: photo, photomanipulation, pencil or ink drawing on paper, paper collage, digital painting... I don't use stock images - my material is "home made": I use my own digital photographs, vintage objects, drawings and textures, collected through years of travels. Most of the fonts are "home made" too - handwritten or "recomposed" using fragments of old letters and notes.
Favourite subjects: the human body, the human mind and the natural environment.
