Nicole Gesmondi, Rhode Island Member Since March 2007 Artist Statement Nicole Gesmondi graduated from the Hartford Art School with a BFA in Photography in 2005. She has continued to focus on her BFA thesis capturing peeling paint found in abandoned buildings. Her work has been published in JPG Magazine and purchased by private art collectors. Nicole has participated in various gallery exhibitions, contributed to local websites supporting endangered architecture, and was the Still Photographer for the Rocky Point documentary, “You Must Be This Tall”.
Nicole’s creative vision encompasses photographing her subject matter in an abstract manner. She achieves this by composing images from a unique angle, or with a close crop, or through reflective glass. Nicole doesn’t necessarily want her viewer to know what they are viewing right away. “That’s boring,” she says. One of her points of emphasis is that “all manipulation should be done in the camera.” She believes the camera doesn’t lie, the photographer does. The camera just shoots what it sees.
In her spare time, Nicole can be found rummaging yard sales and browsing eBay for vintage cameras and old film. She refuses to leave the house without her Holga and a Polaroid back.
Awards: Nicole won First Place in Photography at the Narragansett Art Festival in 2008. Festival located in Narragansett, Rhode Island.
