Description At the peak of Mount Tibidabo in Barcelona, Spain, the Sagrat Cor church looks out over panoramic views of the city. The brilliant white of the top of the church stood out against the clear blue of the December sky. I chose black and white to play up the contrast between the deep blue of the sky and the clean white of the church.
Jasmine Fledderjohann, Lancaster, UK Member Since December 2011 Artist Statement Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, I developed an appreciation for beautiful scenery early. When I was 16 years old, I took an interest in photography, which allowed me to capture and share some of the beautiful images I had always appreciated. On my first trip to Europe, in 2004, I visited Rome and Paris. Having an opportunity to photograph the exquisite historical buildings in these cities only increased my interest in photography, and these days I always try to carry a camera with me. In 2005 I began my graduate work at Penn State, and in 2008 I had a wonderful opportunity to visit West Africa to collect data for my dissertation. The dry red clay dirt, the verdant landscapes, and the haunting, aged buildings inspired a plethora of photographs. During my graduate studies I also visited Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Granada, and Lisbon. After finishing my degree I moved to Utrecht, the Netherlands, and I've had ample opportunities to travel around Western Europe. I now live in England, and most recently visited Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, and Hyderabad in India and Cape Town in South Africa. I'm hoping to take a trip to South America soon!
