Description The origin of this bird lies close to the continent of Australia. It can be found in the woodllands and rainforests of New Guinea, and on the islands of Misol and Aru.A strange looking fellow of mostly black except for its naked red face. Depending on the condition and the mood of this fellow, his face can change shades of red. The Goliath is the largest cockatoo -up to 28 inches. This bird is gentle, shy and hard to keep. He is difficult to breed. The Palm Cockatoo is still relatively common in Cape York, but is threatened there by habitat loss, particularly bauxite mining around Weipa and altered fire regimes elsewhere. Palm Cockatoos are hunted in New Guinea. This species is in high demand for the pet trade due to its unusual appearance. Althouth its number still are high, its prospect for contiued success in the wild is becoming increasingly more precarious.

Matthew Schwartz (AKA Spadecaller) is a grateful survivor who conveys his convictions and serenity through visual art, poetry, and video.
He was trained in traditional oil techniques as a child and later attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71). During the 70's up until the late 80's he exhibited acrylic and oils in New York, and presently resides on the west coast of Florida.
Since the advent of image editing software, he has turned more to creative digital hand painted images and photos striving to fuse these into an art form worthy of the distinction traditional painters deserve.
Spadecaller showcase his digital paintings, poetry, and other mixed media images by creating videos; these are available for viewing at: http://www.youtube.com/user/Thespadecaller.
