Description This great egret was feeding by walking on floating seaweed as if it were an island. This required him to fly a little from time to time and I was on a bluff above him at Point Lobos near Big Sur. Getting a proper exposure took a few tries because he was dazzling white and in bright sun against dark water and seaweed. This shot shows the unusual long neck and a hint of the wingspread of this huge impressive bird.
