Description Turtles are gentle and beautiful creatures. In Hawaii Green Turtles are also known as “Honu.” The turtles are social and friendly. They swim close to you so capturing underwater pictures of these magnificent creatures is easy. However, you should not touch these animals, please give them their space. They are gentle souls that glide effortlessly through the ocean with beauty and grace. Truly a special encounter to be experienced in person. Pictured with the turtle are two other native Hawaiian fish: flame wrasse and the state fish Humuhumu-nukunuku-a-pua'a also known as a reef triggerfish.
Kathy McCartney, San Ramon and Kihei Member Since June 2010 Artist Statement Aloha and thank you for visiting my gallery!
My love for the arts and the tropics was formed during the early years of my childhood. I had the privilege of living on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii with my US Naval family. We lived in Kaneohe and spent many precious moments on the breathtaking beaches nearby: Bellows Beach, Kailua, and Lanikai.
My paintings are inspired by my love or aloha. I desire to capture the tropical feeling from the pristine Hawaiian landscape to the South Pacific atolls. My aspiration is to capture the beauty of the land and the romance of the local people. This is a magical place.
I make the time to create! It is my way of escaping the everyday life and to transcend to the ultimate peace. I hope the images I capture on canvas inspire the viewer to preserve the natural beauty of this planet, so we can all continue to share and experience these special places and insure that they exist for our descendents.
My work has sold within the United States and internationally. I have work for sale and on display at Link2 Fine Art Gallery, Danville, CA; Art on The Lane Gallery, Danville, CA; and Haleakala Trading Company in Kihei, Maui, HI.
I am a mother to a wonderful teenage son. We live in California primarily and part-time in Kihei Maui Hawaii.
I teach drawing and painting to children and adults in Danville, CA. I love it! It is a wonderful thing to see my students proud of their first, second, third and their additional paintings. I feel like a proud mother to see each student progress artistically.
