Paul Keane, Stockholm Member Since September 2010 Artist Statement Hi, My name is Paul Keane and I was born in London , England in 1964. I was educated at Westminster University, London where I studied Architecture and Art. For the last 30 years I have been painting working mainly in the medium of watercolour & Acrylic paints on handmade papers and framed canvas.
My work is the interpretation of the journey of love and its growth and challenges celebrated by the human spirit.
“Our heart and souls are prone to the vunerability of life´s infactuations, Ideals, Happiness, disappointments and celebrations of Love.”
I like to convey these elements in my work through colours of soulful ochre yellows, Blood red hearts, deep siennas and rustic oranges for the eye to create a sense of harmony and connection to each subject or theme I have painted. For example the broken hearts represent the broken hearted people who have suffered a disappointing love life, the hearts coming out of the chimneys represent the home which is or should be manufacturing love to eventually produce whole hearts to each family member which are seasoned vessels of life´s long experience. The trees represent the steady strong strength of the parents in the home. Butterflies represent the lips of kindness and children playing.
I also include the environmental elements of the air, sky, clouds and the sun which are used as backdrops for my themes and feel this provides the enrichment to the soul that all people crave through being exposed to nature, trees, water and the sun which helps us to feel happy and more content with life. Later I introduced “text” as part of my work, or “clues” as I call it. Thus enabling the mind and eyes to reflect over the painting´s colourful visual performance.
I also add texture to my work which is key to my message which I hope to portray to the beholder who feels glad and will be able to feel the depth of the paintings as I do.
Please send me a message if there is anything more you would like to know.
