Description Acrylic 36x48 on canvas. In the painting Hide and Seek, I strived to capture the freedom and joy of childhood, or at least the way I remember it. The children depicted in the painting are me and my brothers, Paul and Jeff, my wife Belle, her sister Angelica, and Angelica's husband Mickey. Counting down by the tree is Jeff, the youngest of the three Martin boys, sporting the flaming red hair that he had as a child. The rest of the children are running to hide, that is except for Belle. She is more keen on dancing than running, and seems to not be so interested in finding an effective hiding place. Belle is the center of almost all of my recent paintings. Sometimes she is an adult and sometimes a child, but I always try to make her true spirit shine through.
Todd Martin, San Diego Member Since October 2014 Artist Statement I am a physician and self taught artist who began painting while in medical school in 1990. Since then I have steadily worked on my craft, trying to improve my ability to fulfill the vision that is in my mind. My goal has always been to create paintings that express joy, happiness, and a love of life. For the past 15 years, my gallery has been my medical office exam rooms. It has brought me great joy and satisfaction to see the reactions of my patients to my paintings over the years. In the early days, it was "that's not bad," but more recently the comments are more along the lines of how happy it makes them feel, and how much would it cost to buy. Given the limited time I have to paint, I never considered selling my paintings because each one is like one of my babies. The opportunity to offer prints of my work is truly exciting for me. I hope you enjoy what I have to share.
