Description This Image refers to the German mathematician A.F. Möbius who used twisted paper strips to explain the fourth dimension to us three-dimensionally thinking individuals. The transparent dark oval shape is the 3D view of a Möbius strip. The individuals isolated and lost in this environment seem to be quite happy though.
Manfred Olsen, Maroochydore Member Since April 2011 Artist Statement I was born in Hamburg, Germany. Since 1983 I have lived in Australia, partly in Maroochydore in Queensland and partly in Hobart in Tasmania.
I have worked as a digital artist since the turn of the millennium, after I had realized, with the acquisition of ‘Artlantis’, the immense art potential of some software. I started then to create images of a distinct character using the new and unique digital medium. This marked a turning point in my career, away from architecture and back to art where I had started from, originally.
Before, I was working as an architectural consultant, first in Hanover, Germany, then in Hobart, Australia.
I studied sculpture with Kurt Lehmann and painting with Kurt Sohns at Hanover University as well as architecture with Friedrich Spengelin and Gerhard Graupner.
During my time in Hanover, I co-founded the “Werbezentrale für Totalkunst und Banalismus” in conjunction with concept artist Timm Ulrichs.
I was married twice. I have 3 grown-up children, a son who works as a graphic designer in Melbourne, my older daughter works as an architect in Brisbane and my younger daughter as a furniture designer and business woman in Hobart.
