Description I sometimes explore color variations of a piece, if it seems to speak to me strongly. Some shapes and colors seem almost archetypal, calling to my soul illuminating the intangibles of life. A dance, an intimate conversation happens between me and the paint, or shapes and medium I am working with, until it is time to part ways, having said all that needs to be said.
Jennifer Lester, OKC Member Since March 2013 Artist Statement American visual Artist -Designer Jen Lester creates exciting contemporary paintings, drawings and mixed media artworks. In addition to her design and contemporary creations, Jen Lester is known worldwide to many for her exquisite paintings of magical realism and Goddess imagery. Always exploring new mediums, the artist now converges the world of physical art and new media. The artist has collectors worldwide and a dedicated following of her work, who are always waiting to see what she will do next.
Much of her art is drawn from her own internal world. The artist is continually exploring themes, variations, materials. The act of painting, creating, is her passion and what drives her. Jen Lester’s unique style is created by combining classical techniques and craftsmanship with the modern. The artist calls her work 'Intuitive Symbolism'. Jen Lester creates paintings on canvas or wood, in acrylic and sometimes oil- as well as hand pressed prints from her own carved blocks, similar in technique to classical Japanese print making.
"The physical paintings are just trapped moments in time, a record of something magical and intangible that can only be felt. I think people respond to truth, and direct raw energy, and I find this is what draws viewers into my work. I believe art is the highest form of communication we have to offer each other. Sometimes I explore color variations of a piece, if it seems to speak to me strongly. Some shapes and colors seem almost archetypal, calling to my soul illuminating the intangibles of life. The artist is a dedicated researcher and student of world mythology, ancient art and architecture, and multicultural native practices. The artist draws upon this knowledge, personal experiences, and love of both nature and urban landscapes for her work. A love of textures, color, natural and man made forms interests her, with her paintings often appearing with intricate textures resembling both. As the artist matures, her work has become more spontaneous, and deeper in symbolism. Jen Lester has been working for more than a decade professionally as a commercial artist providing fine art and illustrations for specialty markets, and in 2013 made the important decision to retire from that pursuit to focus entirely on her personal work. The artist also recently entered the world of multimedia art & design. Her work may be found in private collections, on book covers, magazines and cd covers.
