Description The hotel Ganvie, for guests who stay overnight in the stilt village in Benin. The water was glassy and calm, and a storm was sweeping in overhead. The hotel and other buildings in the village are accessible only via boat or swimming.
Jasmine Fledderjohann, Oxford Member Since December 2011 Artist Statement Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, I developed an appreciation for beautiful scenery early. When I was 16 years old, I took an interest in photography, which allowed me to capture and share some of the beautiful images I had always appreciated. On my first trip to Europe, in 2004, I visited Rome and Paris. Having an opportunity to photograph the exquisite historical buildings in these cities only increased my interest in photography, and these days I always try to carry a camera with me. In 2005 I began my graduate work at Penn State, and in 2008 I had a wonderful opportunity to visit West Africa to collect data for my dissertation. The dry red clay dirt, the verdant landscapes, and the haunting, aged buildings inspired a plethora of photographs. During my graduate studies I also visited Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Granada, and Lisbon. After finishing my degree I moved to Utrecht, the Netherlands, and I've had ample opportunities to travel around Western Europe. I now live in England, and most recently visited Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, and Hyderabad in India. I'm hoping to take a trip to South America soon!
