Artist Statement Who am I? Who is Jamie Clinkingbeard-Hanson?

I am a crazy, inspired artist who loves working in many different mediums. Painting, drawing, collage, and photography are just a few I specialize in. When I paint using watercolor the fresh vibrant look of the medium is what captures my imagination. The glowing colors evoke such feeling. Still life is often my choice of subject matter. I love to plan meals and parties so the dishes I use become the subject matter for the paintings, capturing the feeling of camaraderie and comfort that sharing a meal can create. When I paint using oil sticks, abstraction evolves. The medium lends itself to blending paints to music, capturing feelings and emotions rather than images, creating harmony and beauty through my fingertips.

Then there is collage, the medium I use to work out problems and dilemmas in my life. I collect a cache of images and then the urge to “collage” will come upon me and an image is born. I don’t always know where they come from but most of the time they speak to something that is going on in my life whether it is happy or sad. They add clarity to my life and often let the emotions that are bottled inside have a voice.

In photography i love to look for the unusual view point. Most often I try to capture that in nature, looking through a culvert at a tree, capturing the sun through clouds, finding the abstract in old junk. Watching the skies, hiking the earth, driving and shooting, all keep me focused on the beauty all around us, giving me the option to showcase the worlds beauty in one shot.
