Description Pearl Primus (11/29/19 - 10/29/94) was the grandmother of black dance as ethnic study and art. She performed visually dramatic African-based dances and dances about the black experience in America. Her body had such superb control and range that she could outjump any man.
Lisa Muhammad, North Carolina Member Since April 2010 Artist Statement My art is an extension of who and what I am. It is only when I am creating art that I feel the most authentic. As a creative conduit, I exist to record what God wants to convey visually.
I like the use of mixed media because it allows me to fulfill that mission in a variety of ways. My artworks are illusions to the eye. From a distance the pieces resemble oil or acrylic paintings, but closer inspection reveals the truth, they are really assemblages of cut paper.
