DescriptionInspired by a poem by Spadecaller entitled IN THE SHADOWS.A survivor of child abuse - my humble old friend, Came to my side when my life was ready to end. He said, he waited for life to pass him by Until he had no choice but to forgive or die. To the crackhouse it drove him down To Oblivions alley by the edge of town. On the wings of a foxhole prayer his miracle came With forgiveness it quelled his lingering shame. Then beside the shadow of this wise man I saw my life. My gut sliced open with bitter Truths knife. My abuse was not as great - to myself I lied. And in self-pitying martyrdom I boldly denied: My damn path is chosen. It is the one I learned! Yet, his spirit glistened with the hope I yearned. I marveled at the old mans soul shining above. By his tall shadow I cried with envy and love. Since that moment with my humble friend, I found a life with gentle kindness to amend. Now an old man too I share this about forgiveness and hate: Leave the rancor behind at last and change your fate
