Dan McGeorge, San Diego, CA Member Since April 2010 Artist Statement Dan McGeorge began working professionally in photography during the early 70’s while serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Assigned to the 158th Aviation Battalion Public Information Office, he produced photos and news stories for the 101st’s Screaming Eagle newspaper, and the Pacific Theater’s Stars and Stripes magazine. Later he served with the Naval Reserve Pacific Fleet Audiovisual Command and Combat Camera Group at North Island in San Diego, CA as a Photographer.
He has studied photography and darkroom techniques at the Naval School of Photography in Pensacola Florida, and the Defense Information School in Indianapolis Indiana. He has also studied the physics of light and photography in university and other specialty programs.
Dan’s background lies in traditional 35mm and medium format photography using both color and black and white film. With the advent of digital photographic science, and tremendous advances in the past few years, he works now almost exclusively with digital imaging, while applying the tried and true principles of traditional photography,
After many years of photographic work in a variety of forms, and learning from some of the world’s most accomplished photographic artists, Dan has settled into the realm of Photographic Art. The time had come to focus on the creation of images of beauty which establish an emotional connection with the viewer.
