Makkah Ummul Qura ,the Mother of Cities The Al-Haram Mosque in Makaah, holds the holiest mosque for the Muslims, the Kaabah. Kaa'bah in Arabic means a high place with respect and prestige. Allaah {Subhaanuhu wa Ta’aalaa} says in the Qur’an, {The first sanctuary ever built for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), a blessed place, a guidance to the peoples.} The Ka`bah is the first and the most ancient house of worship ever built for all of humankind and dedicated to the worship of one God. The very first construction of the Kaa`bah was done by Prophet Adam {Alaiehis Salaam}.After this, Prophet Ibraheem with his son Isma`il {Alaiehis Salaam} rebuilt the Kaa'bah. Allaah {Subhaanuhu wa Ta’aalaa} refers to Makkah in several verses of the Holy Quran ,He has sworn on its name, thus giving a unique status unrivalled by any other city in the world, it is given eleven different names, including , Makkah, Bakkah, Al-Balad Al-Amin, Al-Haram Al-Amain and Um-Al-Qura. Allaah {Allaah Subhaanuhu wa Ta’aalaa} has sent down blessings and mercy upon Makkah, the likes of which have not been bestowed upon any other place or person on earth. Here a prayer is worth 100,000 times in any other masjid except Masjid an-Nabawi. This is where Prophet Muhammed {Sallal Laahu ‘Alaiehi Wa Sallam} was born where he began preaching and where he returned for his final pilgrimage. The Kiswah is a black cloth, woven of silk and lined with cotton, which covers the Kaabah. Each year, a new Kiswah is prepared, embroidered in gold thread with the Shahadah and verses from the Holy Qur'an and carried to the Holy City of Makkah by pilgrims. Watercolor Painting
