Description Lanikai Beach is another one of my favorite locations. This beach resides on the East side of Oahu. When I was a little girl I lived in nearby Kaneohe with my US Naval family in the late 1960s. On the weekends we would visit the breathtaking beaches of Kailua and Lanikai. Sometimes we would drive to Waikiki. What captures my attention at Lanikai Beach are the Moku Lua twin islands that sit offshore. This island formation contrasts against a calm, clear turquoise colored sea. The sand is white and smooth. To get a bird's eye view of the East shoreline, I recommend hiking up a hill that sits back from Lanikai Beach behind the residential neighborhood. From this vantage point you can see fabulous views of Lanikai and beyond. There is even an abandoned World War II machine gun nest. The view from here is spectacular and takes my breath away as did the hike! Lanikai Beach is a world away from the social, active Waikiki and both famous locations share their lovely home on the island of Oahu also referred to as The Gathering Place. This island has more people per square mile compared to any of the other Hawaiian Islands. Honolulu is the state capital of Hawaii and is located here on Oahu.
Kathy McCartney, San Ramon and Kihei Member Since June 2010 Artist Statement Aloha and thank you for visiting my gallery!
My love for the arts and the tropics was formed during the early years of my childhood. I had the privilege of living on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii with my US Naval family. We lived in Kaneohe and spent many precious moments on the breathtaking beaches nearby: Bellows Beach, Kailua, and Lanikai.
My paintings are inspired by my love or aloha. I desire to capture the tropical feeling from the pristine Hawaiian landscape to the South Pacific atolls. My aspiration is to capture the beauty of the land and the romance of the local people. This is a magical place.
I make the time to create! It is my way of escaping the everyday life and to transcend to the ultimate peace. I hope the images I capture on canvas inspire the viewer to preserve the natural beauty of this planet, so we can all continue to share and experience these special places and insure that they exist for our descendents.
