Geetha Alagirisamy, Geneva, Cambridge, UK, Australia, Singapore
Member Since October 2006
Artist Statement Born and raised in Singapore, Geetha grew up in a multiracial and multilingual society, learning both the cultures and languages of her Chinese mother and her Indian father.

Her paternal ancestry from four generations of traditional goldsmiths from the South of India initiated her into the world of designs from a young age.

Having spent time in Australia, she moved to England and set up her Cambridge studio while pursuing her Masters in Sculptural Practice. Sustaining a full time job to feed her passion, she indulges in art to expand her creative flares in an imaginative and expressive style and now has a portfolio of sculptures 'to provide the balance between form and function, alongside my abstract and figurative paintings'.

Having had several exhibitions of her works, including one at Alexander Palace in London, her ‘Intimates’ series took to Round 11 of the Saatchi Gallery Showdown.

Mostly abstract and unconventional, Geetha's works comprise a multitude of media ranging from charcoal to ceramics. Texture, feel and vibrancy are the constant focus in her work.

''Although creativity is in my DNA, art was an indulgent luxury at that time to take it up professionally in Singapore....It was only during my travels in Europe and my time in England that I found the mindset to do some serious art and started expressing and experimenting with various media.''

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her personal creed:
''Speak not with thy words, for they are common and abundant;
Speak forth with thy forms, for they will be yours only, always.''

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You get the impression, from looking at her work, that it is painted using an international aesthetic language and ....can be appreciated by any culture." - Ovenden Contemporary

Splitting her time between her studios in Geneva, Switzerland and the idyllic Spanish coast of Isla Plana, Geetha seeks inspiration in what the European lifestyle and culture offers for an artist and sculptor.
