Artist Statement I became a painter by accident, and well into my adult life. My dream had always been something to do with writing or journalism or music, though I had no experience in playing any instrument. During my high school days in Tokyo, I chose art over music in spite of my love for music, simply because I dreaded singing in front of my peers and teachers. Instead of sketching landscapes, I watched ants busily move about near where I was siting or read novels that I hid under my sketch pad. I nearly flunked my art class.

I eventually came to US and became a German major, which got me a scholarship to study at Hamburg University. Upon returning to US I worked as a technical interpreter. At other times I was involved in health industry. During life crisis I had the urge to do some art. I went to local Fort Mason Art Center and drew figures every day. It was a small portfolio out of over one thousand sheet of these drawings that got me into Stanford University's non-matriculated graduate program in Fine Arts Department. I knew no difference between oil and acrylics. I also had no idea who Nathan Oliveira was, my professor and mentor. This was how my art began.

In the last ten years I have been painting Letter to Monet series.
