Description On very short notice, I took my first trip to New York City. This was a city that I never planned to or even wanted to go to. I grew up only minutes from New York State, and was tired of 'I Love New York' t-shirts and bumper stickers long before I could drive. But, things change, and I went to New York with an open mind. I was impressed ... very impressed. Unfortunately I only had two days in the big city. With my previous dislike for New York, I had never sought out photos of the city. Of course I had seen pictures of the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, etc, but I had only ever heard of Times Square.I must admit that I really enjoyed traveling in such a big, famous city with no real knowledge of the place. It allowed me to see things with an open mind ... a mind now free of earlier prejudices. I found myself at Times Square in the early evening, and couldn't believe it. I've been in a lot of big cities, and seen a lot of lights, but this was something special. Not knowing what else to do, I jay-walked my way into the middle of the road, and shot a series of long-exposure shots. This was my favorite of the series.
Dennis Flood Member Since August 2008 Artist Statement I grew up in a small rural village in Canada; open space and quiet are definitely things that I can't get enough of. Strangely enough, I moved away from that and eventually landed in Taiwan, one of the world's most densely populated corners. Overwhelmed by the strange and wonderful new world around me, I began to shoot photographs. Many thousands of photos later, I've noticed some striking patterns in my photos – here are some of them in no particular order.
* I like nature * I like bicycles * I like the ordinary * I'm drawn to the familiar, and appreciate the subtle differences * I'm drawn to the grossly different, unique and foreign * I seem to like laying on the ground to take photos
Neither this ImageKind gallery or my full photo website are by any means a complete archive of my photos; both offer a small sampling of the photos that I've taken during my adventures, my travels and my everyday life. The vast majority of the photos here are available for licensing - a smaller number are available in print form if you're so moved. I encourage you to contact me for more information if you're interested.
Thanks for taking the time to look and to read. Happy travels.
