Renee Whetstone Member Since February 2016 Artist Statement I grew up with a mother who was a very talented caricature and cartoon artist. This is one of my fondest memories of her and it was the extent of my exposure to the art world growing up.
My first sense of my own leaning toward the visual arts came after I became an adult. I soon found I had a keen interest in decorating my home, creating vignettes with pottery and other things, and taking pictures of my own "still life".
Although I always wanted to try painting, I never thought of it seriously until I was exposed to it a few years ago when I took my teenage granddaughter to an acrylic painting class for her birthday. I've enjoyed producing art ever since!
My art is simple but dramatic and ever expanding. Much of it is well suited for kids' spaces and I make no apology for that. But I also have a variety of work which could be used in any room of a home. As a new artist, I am always learning and I enjoy exploring various forms of art but tend to lean toward impressionism or expressionism.
My print called "Rainy Day Nostalgia" is dedicated to my mother because it reminds me of her.
I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it! God bless you.
