Description 'Love for Coffee' is one of my favorites and is one of the greatest drawings I successfully finished in 2008. If you are an art lover or enthusiast, you may recognize part of the style I used for this and other pieces in my gallery- many elements were inspired by Nouveau artwork and architecture and vintage Italian art posters. Before I started working on this, I knew I wanted to use brown tones since the subject of the artwork was coffee and decided that a deep red color for the border complimented the rest of the design. This artwork would make a beautiful greeting card or framed print.
Jennifer Johnson, Murfreesboro, TN Member Since June 2009 Artist Statement My name is Jen and I am a freelance illustrator/cartoonist located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Most of my work is influenced by Nouveau art, vintage art posters, Impressionism, Japanese graphic novels and calligraphy. I have been drawing since I was about three or four years old and other than a few art classes in high school and college, I am entirely self taught. My parents were always impressed with my work (of course) and even when my mother was dying of cancer, she still wanted to see what I was currently drawing in my notepad. For a decade afterward, my father continued to push me to pursue art until he too passed away a few years ago. Now I do art for myself, not for my parents, not for my friends, and not for school. I would like for people to see my work and take something away from it, whether it's a new idea, a new perspective, or a new appreciation for a style that they never considered before. My writing is inspired by many different styles such as stream-of-consciousness or understatement. Topics that usually pop up in my work are gender, feminism, humanitarianism, etc. I also try to aspire to zen and Taoism and use their teachings to keep me going. I hope you enjoy my work.
