Christina Hewson, Charleston, SC Member Since January 2013 Artist Statement Being from beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, it seems natural to say that I can’t remember a time when I didn’t paint. I began selling my art at fifteen, continued painting through school, and received my College of Charleston studio art degree in 2011. The people of Charleston graciously included my work in both the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition and the Spoleto Juried Art Exposition (2012 and 2013). I happily attended my first Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival in 2012, and I am now busy planning for the 2013 show. I displayed a large American Alligator in the inaugural Artfields 2013. Having two of my dog portraits displayed in the HGTV Kiawah Dream Home 2013, and two more displayed in the Charleston Symphony Design House 2013, was an unexpected surprise. I represent my own work at Antiques Market in Mount Pleasant, at Antiques of South Windermere in Charleston, on Imagekind, and on my website (christinahewson.com). I currently focus primarily on my commissioned ink portraits. When I am taking a break from the rigors of ink portraiture; I make my own custom prints, work on my acrylic on wood collection, and on my Charleston collection. My goal is to paint in as pure and simple style as possible so the essence of my subject is revealed. I enjoy sharing my work via my website, my blog, and my Facebook Fan page (www.facebook.com/christinahewsonart) . Late in the day, I swim and I take fairly long walks around our beautiful city. I feel privileged to practice my art, especially in a city that so elegantly supports the arts.
