Description This very rare Mandarin drake spent this summer on the pond at our ranch in central California. Eventually he paired up with one of the wild wood duck hens, and one morning the two of them were on top of one of the wood duck houses, making inspections in hopes of setting up housekeeping. A few days after this last photo was taken, the Mandarin drake disappeared, and we didn't see him anymore. With luck, maybe he'll return next spring.

I have spent many years photographing rodeo action, and am now branching out to include wildlife photography, especially the birds and ducks that frequent the pond on our ranch.
