Thanks for checking out my profile and my artwork! My name is Lori Smoot and I started drawing around the age of five. Quickly, my love for portraits grew. My hobby exploded into a passion while in college at Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. Before college, I had never really painted before. My primary medium was pencil (and I'd never even heard of different hardness of leads!). College was a time of study, learning new mediums, and finding out my work was more than just a hobby. Professors and students encouraged me in ways I hope I never forget. After working for a year, I went back to school and studied Christian Ethics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Being a Christian who is an artist comes with its own set of challenges, but there's nothing like creating for the Ultimate Creator! Since then, I've gotten married and have had 3 children. Life is busy as a wife and mom. Most of my portraits are commission/freelance based, so you won't see too many of those on this site.
What I'm posting here are some of my new interests in art. Some older pieces will make their way on here, but there are acrylics, oils, watercolors, and pencil drawings brewing in my brain. Batik is a brutal medium, but I love the look of a finished piece. I've also had the honor of creating original pieces for a non-profit organization called Global Hope India and a portion of the proceeds from those pieces will go to supporting their work there. I welcome your thoughts, comments, critiques, and encouragement. This is a fun and new adventure for me. Thanks for stopping by!
