When I first began painting, I mostly used acrylic but watercolor quickly became my favorite medium for its clarity and spontaneity. I also frequently incorporate salt and oil pastels in my pieces to create texture, drama and vitality. Drawing from the influence of Georgia O’Keefe, I utilize bold colors and magnified subject matter to accentuate the beauty of everyday objects. I also find inspiration in the geometric patterns of African and Native American art in creating my more abstract pieces. With my photography, I try to capture images that pulsate with energy and mystery as I make my way through the urban landscape of the city. Everyday we are surrounded by the most ordinary objects that have a beautiful sense of aliveness and I strive to capture that essence in my work.
