So.....
I'm a painter, musician, novelist, and commercial producer living in Los Angeles, California.
Painting came late to me. And unexpected. It all started one day in December 2009 when a friend was over at my place and pointed out that my walls were really in need of something. My place was too cold, too minimalistic, too Spartan, she said. I guess she had a point. The walls were about 20 ft. high, and they were white, and there was literally nothing on them. I think I might have had an old black and white picture of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from way back, but ...

I think I might have had an old black and white picture of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from way back, but that was about it. The black hardwood floors had some old Persian carpets on them, but other than that, the space really sorta felt like an empty museum.
I had never taken a painting or drawing class in my life. I don't even doodle. But, being a creative person, I figured I'd give the painting thing a shot.
I went down to the local art store, told the guy to gimme "everything" - I didn't even know what I needed. I didn't know what was a good brush or a bad brush. I went with oil paint, because that's all I had ever heard of.
I tied a bunch of blank canvases to the roof of my car - no, I don't stretch my own; I don't even know how - and I drove home. I spent the next few days/weeks painting pretty much nonstop. One after the next. (This was during the recession, so commercial work was slow).
The paintings I've posted here on Imagekind are some of the paintings I made during this first wave of "inspiration".
As to my stylistic "influences" - everybody always asks that - I guess you could say my style was inspired by my bandmates' tattoos. Does that even count??? Haha.
Anyway, I hope you like them. I do. They're hanging on my walls right now. At least now, nobody's gonna say my place doesn't have a little personality, right? Ha.
Btw, I'm not showing any of my work at the moment. But, if you wanna keep up with me and what I'm doing, you can always check out my band's Facebook page. Blackpool Republic. We just put out an album. If you're in LA, you can catch us playing around town. Maybe.
Rock on.
