Sharyn Redlon began her art career at the age of 14 when she moved from California to Florida. At that time, Sharyn was given the opportunity to live with her father and stepmother, international artist, Caterina Lionti. Caterina noticed Sharyn’s natural talent immediately, and began allowing Sharyn unlimited access to her studio. Ms. Lionti mentored Sharyn for the next seven years teaching her both the esthetics and business of art. As an older teenager, Sharyn was given the opportunity to travel with Caterina to art shows and art festivals around the United States. In 1997, Sharyn, who has been deaf from birth, graduated from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. As with fellow FSDB graduates Ray Charles and Jose Feliciano, Sharyn uses her experiences in the deaf world to give her work deeper meaning and certain richness she might not have been able to accomplish as a hearing artist. At present, Sharyn is continuing her studio art studies at a Jacksonville College, and in the future, hopes to be able to join her mother in Italy during her summer breaks to learn about art from a European perspective and possibly have her first international art show.
