My paintings are informed by my love of the people, faces and places of my native New York City and my adopted home town of Ithaca, New York.
I’m inspired by portrait artists who capture lives in action. In my portrait work, my aim is to capture the rock star in everyone, whether you can carry a tune or not. I like to think that one frame or image of a life does little justice, so I strive to create portraits that depict motion, progression, or a life lived over time.
With every new urban landscape I create, each painting marks another block of Manhattan or Ithaca that I have conquered and can call my own.
It would be understatement to state that my portraits are influenced by video and photography. I generally paint from a PC monitor displaying photos I’ve taken. While taking those photos, I am already framing the compositions which provide the foundation of my paintings.
