My choice of media includes any kind of paint that can be watered down, such as watercolor, acrylic, and ink. Although I tend to dilute the paint heavily, I try to keep the pigment really bright and intense. I enjoy watering down the media so I can work in layers to get the desired effect. Building up different transparent colors to add dimension to a painting is my favorite part of the process. I don't aim for total control of the media, so I can watch what the paint does naturally.

Influences for my paintings come from Edward Gorey illustrations, the illustrative work of Tim Burton, and the psychedelic music posters of the 1960's. I appreciate the line work and dark sense of humor in both Gorey's and Burton's work. I admire the psychedelic poster designs for their intensity of color, elaborate shapes, and Victorian imagery. The kinds of shapes that inspire me are curving and organic. I find this inspiration in nature when I look at trees in the winter. I also enjoy these shapes in decorative wrought iron.
