My paying job as a law professor exercises the left side of my brain. I like photography because it exercises the right side. I think what photography uniquely brings to art is a depiction of the real -- of subjects as they actually were when a photo was taken. But I'm also attracted to bright colors and interesting geometry and dramatic visual contrasts, and since I can't draw or paint or sculpt, photography is my only means of illustrating those things.
