I am an American painter who specializes in transportation subjects and landscapes. I have worked for more than 25 years in the transportation industry, so I am familiar with my favorite subject matter.
My objective is to capture the essence of a scene or a machine, but without distracting detail. In many of the paintings, the I have worked to create a sense of motion.
The paintings are created using a variety of high quality oil paints, brushes and other tools, including the painting knife.
My Imagekind gallery focuses on transportation subjects, and includes paintings that are well suited for prints. I have included images of trains, ships, and airplanes that are representative of my work. More information and a broader selection of paintings can be found on my website http://www.trainsshipsplanes.com
My creative process is as follows: I begin by making several pencil sketches from different angles and distances. Once I am confident that I have a solid plan, I make a more detailed sketch with appropriate shading. Then, working on a colored surface, I begin painting, often without a detailed drawing on the canvas. I complete a monochrome under-painting first, followed by layers of color, details, and lettering if needed. Because of the multiple layers involved, the elapsed time for a painting can be many months.
During the summer of 2008 several of my original paintings were in exhibitions.
Two marine paintings were selected for inclusion in the International Waters Exhibit held at the Ventrua County Maritime Museum in Oxnard, California. Three railroad paintings were part of the Railway Reflections, International Art Expo held at the Nevada State Library Gallery in Carson City, NV
My painting Daybreak Palms was selected for the exhibit book for the Richeson75 International 2009 Small Works Competition.
My painting AHEAD OF THE WEATHER was selected for the Silver Anniversary Juried Show of the American Plains Artists, which was held at the Ellen Noel Art Museum in Odessa, TX June 6-July 12th 2009.
