I love the process of creating and enjoy working with many different materials and techniques. I paint with acrylics and watercolors on canvas, silk, paper, board, and fabric. I sculpt and cast, make relief prints from my own carvings, sew and quilt, and enjoy photography and digital manipulation. I have always loved working with my hands, which also includes gardening, cooking, and construction. I have a B.S. in biology and worked as a research biologist in Alaska where I honed my natural talent for observation and strengthened my connection to nature and wildlife. Prior to that I specialize in animal behavior studies and have always enjoyed training animals and getting to know what is important to them. I have worked with dogs, horses, cats and captive caribou. My Labrador Retrievers are my first love. These days my art is inspired by my Labrador dogs (my own and the rescue dogs I foster) and the gardens and scenes of my home overlooking Seneca Lake in New York. In my paintings I am not a realist, but prefer to simplify and abstract important elements that express a feeling, emotion or moment in time. I love to bring a smile to the face of anyone who views my art or make a connection by touching a shared sentiment.
