I was born and grew up in Ulan-Ude, a Russian city of about 370,000 people located in Eastern Siberia, just north of Mongolia and east of Lake Baikal. I got my first (film) camera when I turned 6 and have been taking pictures ever since, switching to digital format in 2005. After moving to the US and living in New York for several years, I am now based in Seattle. I especially enjoy photographing the scenery of Washington State and Buryatia (the Russian region of which Ulan-Ude is the capital). I also like wandering city streets with my camera and taking pictures of people and places.
I encourage everyone to visit Buryatia and see for yourself the beauty of its mountains, steppes, forests, as well as the amazing Baikal, the deepest lake in the world. It is also the largest lake in the world by volume, holding about 1/5 of the world's supply of fresh water, and home to numerous endemic species. While it may seem very far away for most of you, it is only a 5-hour flight from Moscow (about the same as flying across the United States) and well worth it! I'd be happy to talk to anyone considering a trip to Buryatia and the Baikal region and help you plan your travels and figure out places to visit.
