My paintings marry a sense of vivid, contemporary color with a love of the deep romantic spaces of 19th century American landscape painting.

Currently a 7 museum national traveling exhibition, Unbroken Thread: Nature Paintings and the American Imagination. The Art of Philip Koch is underway through 2011. 12 American art museums hold my paintings in their Permanent Collections.
I have had the privilege to enjoy 12 residencies staying and working in the former painting studio of Edward Hopper on Cape Cod. I am a senior Professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
