I have always been keen on drawing and, after retiring early from a career in the social services, decided to pursue my art a little more seriously. Having attended several art courses and workshops, I have developed a preference for dry media, particularly coloured pencils, because of the control they offer for mark-making as well as their immediacy and convenience.

I work in a realistic way and like to capture the shapes and colours I see in ordinary, everyday objects and particularly flowers. I love the detail and subtle hues achievable with coloured pencils and find working with them both challenging and satisfying. Completing a picture in this medium can take some time but it's worth it when I get a result I'm happy with! I am a member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society.
