Doug La Rue grew up in Dallas, Texas and being the offspring of an engineer and an artist he quickly found a passion for a mixture of art and technology. La Rue interned with 3 professional photographers before graduating from High School and won every art and photo contest he entered during this time including the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship and was inducted into the National Quill and Scroll Honor Society for Journalism.

Doug La Rue grew up in Dallas, Texas and being the offspring of an engineer and an artist he quickly found a passion for a mixture of art and technology. La Rue interned with 3 professional photographers before graduating from High School and won every art and photo contest he entered during this time including the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship and was inducted into the National Quill and Scroll Honor Society for Journalism.
In college, La Rue worked as a photojournalist and provided work for United Press International and Associated Press and even made the Dean's List while completing a degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University in the fall of 1987. His art made its way into numerous gallery spaces and showcases including honors and awards for photography ans illustration.
He moved to Austin and spent the next seven years producing books for various publishers like Holt Rinehart Winston and Steck-Vaughn. La Rue also designed several children’s book characters and books for L.B.Co. Publishing, including Charge, The Littlest Aggie and Esprit & Claire, The Spirit and Vision of Notre Dame.
La Rue was also on the Board of Directors for The Artist' Coalition of Austin and was active in their group shows. La Rue placed seond in "Range of Motion" a competition which turned into a 2 month gallery show in the Texas State Capitol Building.
In 1994 La Rue founded Glaze Studio, a creative visual media production company.
