Strombotne & 78 specialist Greta Rozar
My name is Greta Rozar and I am a 78 specialist representing 78, Inc.
78 was established to provide an efficient, elegant way to represent the ancient language of Tarot. In 2004 we commissioned established contemporary artist James Strombotne to paint each individual arcana on a 20" x 30" canvas.
(An interesting side note: the Mona Lisa measures 20 7/8" x 30.")
This endeavor to capture each of the 78 arcanas on canvas took over two years to complete. It was our honor to work directly with the artist James Strombotne.
James Strombotne, a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, has enjoyed a prolific career that spans over five decades. Strombotne was first recognized as a major contemporary American artist when a feature article about his talent appeared in TIME magazine in 1961.
Strombotne's work has been displayed in 22 major museum collections and is included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
Strombotne's work is also in many well-known private collections. Most notably, the Jack Nicholson collection comprises twenty-five pieces. Strombotne has also been included in most major group shows in America, including two Whitney Annuals, the Carnegie International, and the Corcoran Biennial.
