When Gill Miller thinks about his next painting, or about art in general, he is reminded of the artistic spirits and influences of Pollock, Rothko or Franz Kline. These artists have had a profound influence on him. “Pollock showed me how to trust my instincts and go with my gut feelings about art. I learned not to be afraid of the process, of the evolution of my craft.”
And now, several years after his first art show in Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, CA, the evolution and the journey continues. Numerous art shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco, participation in an international art exhibition in Italy the latter part of 2013, his art as the pivotal point for an AFI short film titled, PASTE, and the inclusion in the May 2013 issue of Architectural Digest are some of the highlights of Gill’s career so far.
Starting with working on canvas with spray acrylic, which is Gill’s primary medium, he has branched out to creating digital collages, creating new compositions from his canvas art. These are available as giclee prints. This has also helped his canvas work evolve in a way that it might not have without the digital perspective.
This is a different era than when Pollock was alive and working. The struggle may be different. However, the beauty and the passion still has to come through.
