Bennett Hall, San Francisco based photographer and designer created World Wide archive, which includes both his film-based photographic work and vintage collection of historical photography from just about everywhere.

Hall has need shooting large format photography since 1974

The collections are made produced using a combination of traditional and digital methods. Each image was originally made with a film camera, up to 8 x 10 inches, the size Ansel Adams or Edward Weston often used for example. This means the resolution of the original content has amazing details, unlike what is commonly "captured" today with most digital cameras. Images can be enlarged considerably without loss of detail

The process of digital "migration" employs state-of-the-art scanning technology - professional flat beds such as the Creo Eversmart or the Fuji Lanovia scanners or drum scanners. These devices capture resolution at up to 11,000 dpi (dots per inch), using optics far superior to those found on desktop scanners.

In the case of historical images, each view digitally refined at the high resolution; removing flaws, scratches or dust marks, and correcting color and contrast. Our best practices for historical collections modify only those aspects with are defects or age-related degeneration to ensure the ultmost in historical accuracy. We strive to achieve as best as possible the intent of the photographer at the time the photograph was made or printed.

Our San Francisco collection offers the largest exhibition-grade selection of historical photography of San Francisco available.

Other examples of our work can be seen on a variety of websites, including our business services.
