Painting is something that snuck up on me. It was a desire that slowly made itself known over a period of years before I actually decided to do it. They say to be a good writer you need life experience. In my case, I think to paint, I needed life experience. It was something I grew into and found I absolutely love to do. If I didn't sell a single painting, I would still be filling every inch of wall in my house with colourful interpretations of the world around me.
