Nature, landscape and wildlife photography has been my creative release and passion since I was 12 years old. Today I still have the same since of wonder and excitement when I'm capturing images of not only the Ohio landscape but also in other areas of the United States including Colorado, Utah, Montana, Pennsylvania and more. I also have an extensive collection of photographs taken in and around several Civil War Battlefields.
Most recently one of my wildlife images won 1st Place in the Professional Division of the Emerging Life Category in the Annual Photography Competition of the National Wildlife Federation. This same image - a close-up of two baby House Finches - is currently on display at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington D.C. My photographs have also appeared on the cover of three issues of Ohio State Parks Magazine, Dayton's Culture Work's Living Arts Magazine and various Dayton Visitor Guides.
My absolute favorite location in Ohio for capturing nature, landscape and wildlife photographs is in Hocking Hills State Park. The quiet and subtle beauty of the sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and Hemlock forests moves me beyond words.
Since my younger days, exploring the Ohio woodlands with camera in hand, I’ve served as a U.S. Marine, studied as a college student, worked as a marketing manager, returned to school as a graduate student, taught college courses in communications and journalism as well as expressed my impressions of the world as a writer. However, the one constant in my life has, and always will be, my love for nature photography.
I studied Professional Nature Photography under David Middleton at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana. My gear includes Canon EOS Digital 5D and 1D Mark II cameras, Canon L lenses, Bogen tripod, Kirk ballhead and L-brackets, Lowepro bags, Canon Speedlite, Alien Bee strobes and my Vasquez boots. My digital darkroom includes a 17-inch MacBook Pro, a Dell and a Gateway PC, two Samsung monitors, Epson 1280 and 7600 printers and number of external drives, card readers and DVD burners.
I grew up in Dayton and I am a graduate of Archbishop Alter High School and the University of Dayton. I also hold a Master of Professional Communication from Westminster College of Salt Lake City.
I own and manage Picture Ohio, LLC from my home in Centerville, Ohio, where I am also a single dad for my daughters, Emma and Chloe. I am an active member in the North American Nature Photography Association, Professional Photographers of America and Professional Photographers of Ohio.
